More and more companies and institutions are specifically focusing on the use of 3D. A director has a 3D animation created because his story can only be told convincingly with CGI, a computer game developer wants to profitably market his latest game with a 3D animated cinematic trailer, or an automobile manufacturer needs a modern, fresh product video. 3D animation can simplify many work processes, make marketing more efficient, and thus get you to your desired destination faster.
Customized 3D solutions require different ways of working
The production of a 3D animation can be done in the most diverse ways and its audiovisual design varies greatly depending on the objective. As an 3D animation studio in Berlin, we primarily use the programs Cinema 4D and Blender. Often both programs are used in combination, in which both complex 3D objects can be created, textured, illuminated and animated. Many 3D solutions can be realized with the help of this software and a professional team. But there are areas that other programs can cover even better: If a 3D animation is needed, in which primarily simulations such as fire, water, smoke are to be represented, the work with the software Houdini can be advantageous. It is, even for Hollywood blockbusters, today’s industry standard when it comes to rendering complex, photorealistic simulations. Houdini also allows for thoroughly node-based, procedural work: 3D models and animations can thus be flexibly controlled and manipulated via parameters at any time.
Working in digital 3D space can become extremely complex. It is not uncommon for 3D agencies to specialize in producing specific areas that need to be animated. Elaborate simulations or VFX (visual effects) are examples of complex sub-areas of animation that production companies focus heavily on in their work. The activity in 3D includes many fields in which specialized personnel is needed, so that no level is missed out. When a 3D animation is commissioned, different departments are usually involved in the creation.
Which departments offer 3D Animation Studios in Berlin and other locations?
Analogous to classic film production, there is also a hierarchical division of labor in the field of 3D animation. An art director acts as a supervisor and is thus similar to a director. He develops a suitable audiovisual concept. At the same time, he supervises and accompanies the work process until completion. He is assigned a team of CG artists or 2D-3D artists, who are usually responsible for modeling and texturing 2D-3D objects. If the required 3D elements are available, they can be animated accordingly by 2D-3D animators. If necessary, music composers, sound engineers and noise makers are also part of the team. Finally, the video is checked and finalized by compositing artists on various levels, such as color grading. Extensive work in digital 3D also requires extensive, goal-oriented collaboration.
