This year’s Junior Agency Award was held in Berlin, hosted by the design akademie berlin and accompanied by us as film producers. On July 15th seven teams from all over Germany were competing to win one of the eligible gold, silver or copper trophies. Each team previously spent a semester creating a campaign in cooperation with one of Germany’s leading agencies. On the day of the award show the teams came together to present their ideas to a jury, consisting of agency managers, marketing experts, professors and journalists, in a 25 minute-long pitch. At the end of the day the jury voted for their favourite teams who were then presented with their awards as well as an audience award and a making off award voted by all members of the teams.
The Client GWA
GWA is Germany’s leading agency association and a representation of interests for German communication and advertising agencies. They are located in Frankfurt am Main and have over 110 members including agencies like BBDO, Heimat, Jung von Matt, MEDIA CONSULTA, Saatchi & Saatchi and thjnk. GWA are known for their many eligible award shows including the GWA Effie for marketing communication, the GWA HealthCare Award for Healthcare communication, the GWA Profi Award for B2B marketing and the GWA Junior Agency Award for marketing and communication campaigns between students and advertising agencies. We were assigned as film producers to document the Award Show for 2016.
Our job was to create a Trailer for the award show that could be posted to the client’s social media to tease the event but also work as a loop version throughout the event and fill the breaks. This year’s topic was “Do Epic Shit” – what was standing for urban playfulness. The client also required altered versions of the trailer to present the individual items on the event’s agenda and introduce the seven different teams. Additionally we as film producers were supposed to shoot the entire award ceremony and create a documentary that functions as a Trailer to tease the award show for next year.
